Tweed Coast Tigers
It was great to be back at home for the under 8s at the jungle today but the dogs came out snarling. Our boys always rise to the challenge and are happy to don the oppositions jumper to help out when needed. Their enthusiasm and mateship shines through regardless of the colours they were wearing.
While we always have a team full of champions there are some special mentions today – Jarrah lead the way having a massive game with more disposals than Rory Sloane and finding space better than Apollo 11.
Jack played a magnificent game in the middle and when he moved forward he found the goals with kicks that Cyril would be proud of.
It was great to see everyone showing off their quick disposals just like we talked about at training. All of the time spent developing skills is paying off on game day.
Many thanks to Noah for his awesome umpiring today. He ensured that both sides played a fair and consistent game and he helped improve the players skill and understanding with his clear instructions throughout the game.
Thank you to all the families who came to support the team and all of those who helped out in the canteen / BBQ as well as the set up and pack up today.
We’ll never weaken! Josh
Today the U 15 girls took on Brunswick at our home ground. The girls were keen to get an official win on the board. The first two minutes of play saw our girls come out firing to kick the opening goal of the match. We knew our girls meant business. Today saw some hard hitting, very physical football. The girls gave it their all. Both sides had a few injury scares, all in fair play.
New recruit Georgia Johnson laid some fierce tackles. Ella Cornelius was on fire slotting some lovely goals (5 in total). Inka Shillings was carrying an injury and was relocated to full forward the coaches instructions were “don’t move much just kick goals” and she did just that bagging 7 today!!! It was a great team effort and the girls deserved the win. Final score Tweed 14.5.89 to Brunswick 6.8.44. Player of the match Ella Cornelius. Better players Inka Shillings, Georgia Johnson, Tobi Chapman.
Goal scorers Makayla Sekac & Tobi Chapman 1, Ella Cornelius 5 and Inka Shillings 7.
Great to hear our team song today!
Thanks to all our brother & parent helpers.

An excited bunch of girls made their way down to Byron yesterday to take on the gargantuan Byron Magpies with an average age much greater than our little cubs. Despite this, the girls made a valiant effort across the ground to play hard and tackle well. Being their first game, there is room for improvement, but we saw some great signs with highlights being……
Christina’s constant run through the middle and long kicks. Macey’s determination and running skill. Clancy tackling girls double her size, and Paige’s storming run from behind tackle which went unrewarded but was definitely the tackle of the match and deserved a free kick.
It was definitely a good base to build on and I’m sure the girls will get the hang of it all in the coming weeks. It’ll be fun to watch.
Brunswick heads this week at home will be a challenge we will all look forward to.
Well done girls
Wow what a great game our boys were amazing, we have been working on using our voice more in games by doing some training drills focusing on being confident and having a loud voice and it’s working the sharing of the ball and the passing to the best option was evident yesterday. We came out of the blocks focused and was leading up to three quarter time then Byron kicked three quick goals which brought it right down to the wire.i had four players in a rotating tagging roll which they executed perfectly shutting down two of Byron’s gun players so a huge well done to Joseph, Isaac, Oscar, and George great discipline and well done at following my instructions, other outstanding players were Ty who always plays well and took a great mark and fed the ball into Taylor in the forward line who again had a great game, Rhys got lots of the and passed it really well setting up Jaxon for a goal, Ben was fantastic with his defence and then moved into the forward line with a great long goal, koby continued his fierce tackling from last week and helped our team to get a lot of the ball because he went in hard and got it out to them.
Best player was George his hard work at training and I’m sure at home is really paying of he had the best game I have seen him play in three years and the coaches award went to Joseph he always follows my instructions and always puts the team first his tagging was so good he really got under the skin of the Byron player and totally put him off his game limiting him to only two possessions in the second half I recon he would have contained patty dangerfeild with that effort. A big thank you to Jaxon, Harrison, Seisha, and Elijah who all had turns playing for Byron. Overall everyone contributed to a great game you should all be very proud of your efforts as I’m extremely proud of you all.
